To close or cancel a DTI business name registration in the Philippines, you need to prepare specific documents, file a request with DTI, and secure a confirmation of cancellation. Below is a simplified overview of the process and basic requirements.
1. Prepare Required Documents
Gather the key documents needed for your cancellation request:
- Original DTI Business Name Certificate
- Valid government-issued ID of the registrant
- Letter of Request or Declaration stating your intent to cancel the business name registration and the reason for closure
2. File the Cancellation Request
Online via DTI BNRS
- Access the DTI Business Name Registration System (BNRS) portal.
- Look for the option to request cancellation or file a business name-related application.
- Upload scanned copies of your required documents.
In Person at a DTI Office
- Visit the nearest DTI office or Negosyo Center.
- Bring your original DTI Business Name Certificate and valid ID.
- Submit your Letter of Request and accomplish any additional DTI forms, if required.
3. Basic Requirements and Supporting Documents
The commonly required documents include:
- DTI Business Name Certificate, or an affidavit of loss if the original is lost
- Valid government-issued ID of the registrant
- Letter or affidavit requesting cancellation of the DTI business name
- Supporting documents showing business closure or cessation (e.g., LGU business permit retirement, BIR closure acknowledgment)
4. Fees and Cancellation Confirmation
- Cancelling a DTI business name registration is generally free or may have only minimal administrative fees. Always confirm any applicable charges with DTI.
- After processing, DTI will issue a Certificate of Cancellation or a written confirmation that your business name registration has been cancelled.
Important Reminder: Close Other Registrations Separately
Cancelling your DTI business name registration does not automatically close other government registrations.
- BIR tax registration must be closed through a separate BIR business closure process.
- Local government permits (Barangay, Mayor’s/Business Permit) also require separate retirement or cancellation.
For full business closure and to avoid future penalties, make sure you complete the necessary steps with DTI, BIR, and your LGU.
